| DAY
1: Arrival in St Petersburg –
we meet whichever flight you arrive on.
Transfer to Hotel. Welcome drink late-evening.
DAY 2: Trip
to the Hermitage* Collection* (displayed
in the Winter Palace). Own lunch, then Sightseeing
Tour of the City, on foot and by bus. We’ll
help you plan your evening entertainment
if you like?
DAY 3: See
the waterways of the city nicknamed “The
Northern Venice” – by riverboat.
Lunch and afternoon free for shopping, strolling
the boulevards, visiting the sights etc?
DAY 4: Depart
by road to ancient Novgorod – en-route
stop at the Tsarskoe Selo Palace of Catherine
the Great. Afternoon walking tour around
Novgorod’s mediaeval Kremlin* –
the oldest in Russia. Maybe book a table
to dine in an ancient chamber of the Kremlin*
this evening?
DAY 5: Excursion
across the Novgorod marshes to the Yuriev
(St George) Monastery and the Village Museum.
Free time after lunch – maybe take
a boat trip up to Lake Ilmen, visit the
City Museum?
DAY 6:
Depart from Novgorod by road to Torzhok.
Torzhok is a small C19th merchant’s
town, mainly interesting because it’s
appearance has changed little since then.
There’s no “tour” since
this is more for atmosphere than content,
but you can stroll the river-banks. Mainly
this is a staging-post en-route –
but it has a good hotel (which is rare in
rural Russia!).
DAY 7: Early
departure to Moscow and lunchtime arrival.
Afternoon sightseeing tour of the city centre
– Red Square, GUM, and more! Maybe
stay downtown in the evening for supper…
and perhaps more too?
DAY 8:
Morning trip to the Moscow Kremlin* –
the nerve-centre of Russia’s history
for centuries. Afternoon free time –
maybe visit the famous art at the Tretyakov
or Pushkin Museum, shop around Kuznetsky
Most or haggle for souvenirs on Arbat St?
Tonight’s plans could include entertainment
or farewell supper – we can help you
arrange either or both?!
DAY 9: Departure
day. If you’re flying back to Europe,
you probably have the morning free and leave
after lunch. Whenever you leave, we provide
an airport ferry service.
*No activities
on Beetroot are compulsory—you buy
only the tickets you want, at local face
prices – see next page for more details.
