Why every child should visit China

China is a must-visit, but it isn’t just couples and solo travellers that will enjoy this epic destination. Families with children, young and old, will find plenty to do and to see in China.

Here at Russia Experience, we offer China trips with a difference. All the family can travel in style on the Trans-Siberian Express, taking in one breath-taking destination after another.

Travelling long distances with all the family in tow is certainly worthwhile when visiting China. Here’s why you should take your child to China and create unforgettable travel memories that they’ll look back on for years to come.

Explore an exciting history

China is one country that’s full of history and heritage. Every town and city has its own story to tell and as well as fascinating adults, these tales intrigue and spark the imaginations of children. From the Great Wall of China to the Terracotta Army in Xi’an, there’s a lot to see.

Chinese history spans thousands of years, making it one of the oldest civilisations on the planet. In addition to exploring its colourful emperors and their dynasties, children can learn more about the marvellous inventions China is responsible for. The country invented paper, gunpowder, silk, porcelain, printing, and the magnetic compass to name but a few things.

Reconnect with the natural world

Today’s modern society gives children very little opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors. In China, you can give them the chance to reconnect with all that nature has to offer. Rural China hosts a long list of natural wonders.

Jiuzhaigou National Park is certain to be a favourite for children of all ages and interests. The UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to cascading waterfalls, colourful lakes, and snow-capped mountains, offering a diverse landscape just waiting to be explored.

Reconnecting with nature is made even more fun in Yangshuo. Indulge big and little kids with a raft ride down the county’s Yulong River as TripSavvy recommends:

“Adults will enjoy a lazy float down the Yulong River in China’s southern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region amid a beautiful backdrop of karst mountains covered in green during the summer. Kids will enjoy arming themselves with water guns and squirting their parents and each other. Arm each boat and make it a battle as you head downriver. Just make sure you have your camera in a plastic bag!”

Even China’s cities have tons of natural wonders to discover, with the most cosmopolitan urban haunts presenting their own unique green spaces and gardens.

Take a walk on the wild side

China is home to great wildlife and is the only place in the world to see giant pandas outside of captivity. Chengdu is the best place to see pandas with its Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding a popular attraction.

The Wolong Panda Center and Dujiangyan Panda Base are also great places to see the region’s panda population, with both based just a stone’s throw away from Chengdu.

Discover the birthplace of Kung Fu

Older children and adults will be suitably impressed by a visit to the Shaolin Temple. The world-famous Shaolin Temple is known as the birthplace of Kung Fu and has taught thousands of monks the ancient art since it was built.

Even today, you can witness the amazing skills of trained monks in the most stunning surroundings at the foot of Song Mountain in the Dengfeng County of Henan Province.

Enjoy fun and frolics at Disneyland

We couldn’t list reasons to visit China without mentioning Disneyland! Disneyland Shanghai may be among the newest resorts on the planet but it’s also one of the most impressive.

Situated in Chuansha New Town of Pudong New Area, Disneyland Shanghai consists of six themed lands, each of which features rides and attractions you won’t want to miss. It’s all-new Pirates of the Caribbean attraction is also a must-visit.

Those visiting Hong Kong on their China trip should also check out Hong Kong Disneyland. It’s one of the most fun things to do in Hong Kong with kids.
