Uzbekistan’s classic silk route cities. Forget its Soviet-era image and take a step into the past! Samarkand - over the centuries home to Alexander the Great, Ghengis Khan and Tamerlane. Bukhara - infamous for its despotic khans and their role in The Great Game. This historic city lies in the heart of the silk route, the famous caravanserai still in use by todays traders. Khiva is the most remote and intact of the silk route cities, a living museum of madrassahs, mosques and minarets. Travel to Uzbekistan and you will experience the warm hospitality of its ancient cultures.

1 Own travel to Tashkent. Car transfer on arrival to Hotel Sam-Buh in Tashkent. Free time to relax and explore the city - possibly visit the museums (the Applied Arts Museum is worth seeing), the Old City and the Bazaar. Overnight. Tashkent

2 Bkfst, car transfer to bus station, morning journey to Samarkand (4-5 hrs). Own taxi (low cost) to Hotel Furkhat. Another private B&B, this friendly operation is superbly located by the Registan Square - the perfect place to start your sightseeing! Evening free. Samarkand
