An add-on Eastwards from our Central Asia Experience program, via Almaty (for one night in transit) and the Tien-Shan Mountain Railway to Urumqi, in the Xinjiang Province of Western China.

Accom
1 (last day of Central Asia Experience trip). By car to Tashkent airport for early morning departure. Flight on local airline (normally on Uzbekistan Airlines) to Almaty (see note below). Arrive Almaty and car to Family Stay B&B. Free day to explore Almaty, and overnight. Almaty

2 Further day free to explore Almaty.
(NB since Almaty's sightseeing attractions are quite limited, there are some optional excursions available at extra cost, including the chance to visit Kazak nomads (June-Sept only). (We will have more details on excursions later).
Car to station, depart approx 21:00 to Urumqi.

3 ...on board the Tien-Shan Mountain Railway. Chinese/Kazak frontier (border formalities) approx mid-day. On into China... train
4 Morning arrival Urumqi - end of itinerary.  
  VISA NOTE - Since this trip only involves a quick transit stop in Kazakstan, the need for a Kazak Transit Visa can actually be avoided, saving you time and cost. We need to make sure your Uzbek Visa remains valid, to act as a Transit Visa in lieu.
You must be holding a Chinese Visa to enter China.
