Our Staff

Our West London office is staffed by a team of destination experts who can answer almost any question about the locations on our trips. Amongst the staff you might find assisting you are.... Marina who is from Siberia herself, and prior to working in our London office as Reservations Manager was our top guide at Lake Baikal... Brenda who's from New Zealand, and has travelled all over the world - including, of course, Russia!..... Colette is our Operations Manager, and has years of backpacking experience behind her (much of it on motorbikes), as well as being a veteran Russia-Siberia-Mongolia-China traveller. Other staff based out of our London office are Jo our Finance Director, who you will probably only hear from if you seriously miss your trip-payment date. Jo was one of the original two founders of the Company in 1994... and Odette our Sales & Marketing Director, who spends most of her time on the road supporting the assistance our many Russian Special Agents offer. The team is completed by our faithful Visa Couriers Father Ted* and Jenny, who spend their lives queueing outside the Russian, Mongolian and Chinese Consulates on your behalf.
* he's called "Father Ted" because he's Jo's dad, y'see....

We also have an office in Moscow, where some bookings are also dealt with, and which coordinates the smooth running of our trip operations all over Russia. Lera is our Moscow Office Manager, and is a native Muscovite. Lera's been involved from the very start of our Beetroot Bus trips, and she is also Beetroot Bus Manager. Assisting her is Katya, another native Muscovite, who is especially involved in trip booking and coordination. Vlad is our alpha-geek who fixes computer things before they break. Also attached to the Moscow office is our Altai Mountains trouble-shooter & guide Tania. The final person in the Moscow office is Neil, who is the Managing Director, and believes in running things from the "sharp end" directly in Russia. Neil is originally from London, and worked as a freelance tour leader in the USSR (his first trip was in 1979) for ten years before starting Russia Experience with Jo. Neil also writes travel articles for UK newspapers and magazines (The Independent, Wanderlust) and is a contributor to guidebooks (Rough Guides, Trans-Siberian Handbook). He has a guidebook of his own (Tuva & Southern Siberia) coming out on the Trailblazer imprint in 2003. He also writes a (not entirely serious) Moscow Diary

Russian Special Agents

We have appointed Travel Agents who handle the booking procedure for our trips. However, we don't let just any idiot do this! We restrict the number of Agents who can book our trips to companies who are (i) friendly and helpful to our kind of clients (ii) have often/mostly done our trips themselves and can talk from practical experience (iii) offer above-average deals on helping you get to/from our trips, and often with other associated travel as well. Sadly, a lot of other travel agents fail to make the grade, and that's why we call the ones who do our Russian Special Agents! If you are having difficulty finding a good travel agent, or all the flights prices you are quoted (they're unusual fares which many agents don't understand - especially "out to Russia but back from China") all seem ridiculously high, please contact us... we'll put you in touch with a Russian Special Agent near to you who can help. We have agents in other countries too - USA, Germany, Eire, Australia and New Zealand amongst others.

Without Whom...

We're only a small company, so we rely on lots of outside specialists for their assistance. Although they mean nothing to you, dear reader, take it from us, that these people have helped make the trip you'll finally take even better than it might have been otherwise! Especially... Michael, Katie and John-Paul at Wild Dog Design (who do our brochures and the outline design of this website), Melanie & Linus at Magrathea for keeping us online, Pam Collins who does our book-keeping, Bernard Finerty and Nigel Brice at Finerty-Brice, accountants who are much more than bean-counters, PC Solutions who supply and maintain our computer hardware, and many others too numerous to mention.
We'd also like to thank the large number of Nigerian Bank Officials who have contacted us with tempting offers to move illegal millions to the UK for a mere 30% cut, but actually we're so busy with our travel business we don't have the time, thanks!
