Classic Naadam Train

Beijing to Moscow

 

 

 "Naadam" is the biggest holiday of the Mongolian calendar - the annual festival of three "manly sports" (wrestling, archery and horsemanship)

Trip overview

DAY 01 – Arrival in Beijing

Make your own way to the hotel. Free time to explore one of the world’s fastest growing capital cities.

DAY 02 – Departing Beijing

Own transfer to Beijing Central station where you will board the Ulaanbaatar bound train.

DAY 03 –  Arival in Ulaanbaatar

Transfer to a hotel where you have the opportunity to freshen up and have a light snack before departing for your city tour. Then transfer to Elstei Ger Lodge.

DAY 04 –  Elstei Ger Lodge

Free time at Elstei Ger Lodge. Throughout the day you will have the opportunity to partake in optional activities.

DAY 05 – Naadam Festival 

Naadam Opening Ceremonies; Naadam kicks off with an opening parade around the track of the Sports Stadium, vaguely similar to the Olympics Parade but with a special Mongolian twist.

DAY 06 – Naadam Festival

Return to the stadium to the ankle-bone and archery tournaments. Balance of the day is your own to explore this city of contrasts. Culture, shopping, food ?  

DAY 07 –  Ulaanbaatar

Visit the City Square and see a display of Mongolian national dress.  Evening transfer to the station where you will board the Irkutsk bound train.

DAY 08 –  On board

On board The Trans-Sib… heading towards Russia. When you make the border crossing there will be the usual halt for formalities.

DAY 09 –  Arrival in Irkutsk

Early morning transfer to Listvyanka Village on shore of Lake Baikal.

DAY 10 –  Choose one activity from the list

It’s all included in the trip price.

(C) Taltsy wooden museum
(D) Do your own thing

DAY 11 – Return to Irkutsk

Transfer from Listvyanka Village back to Irkutsk, free time to explore. Early evening transfer to the station, where you will board the Moscow bound train.

DAY 12 –  On board The Trans-Sib

Onwards via Novosibirsk.

DAY 13-14 – On board The Trans-Sib

Travelling through Kazan and Ekaterinburg.

DAY 15 – Arrival in Moscow

Very early morning arrival in Moscow. Your driver will meet you at the station and transfer you by private car to the hotel. Your room will be allocated on arrival.   You will have a chance to have breakfast before setting out on today’s three hour walking and familiarisation tour.  This will introduce you to the city (and its public transport system) and get your sightseeing off to a flying start. The rest of the day's your own.

DAY 16 –  End of Trans-Siberian journey

Check out of your room by 12 noon today. Own transport to the airport or station on departure.
