Many of our itineraries include a "standard" 2-3 nights in Moscow or Petersburg, on the basis that (i) if you have flown on Day 1, you will miss a lot of that day whilst travelling and (ii) this is probably the minimum amount of time you would want to explore these great destinations!
If you want to add any extra nights in Moscow or Petersburg, this is usually possible! The only thing we ought to say is this:
You have to add the extra nights BEFORE the day of departure from Moscow - because the Trans-Sib Itineraries only work on very specific and non-changeable dates!
Adding extra nights in stops along the Trans-Sib Route almost never works-out. The timetable of train services has been slowly eroded over the years, and very often the number of nights offered "as standard" in our itineraries is about the only feasible break-journey period. If your life would be ruined unless you can stop for 7 nights in Ulan-Ude, please contact us anyhow and we'll see what can be done - but it takes even anoraks like The Boss (who knows the timetables from memory) nearly an hour to figure-out an itinerary of connections, so this isn't something we can do over the phone!
