We appreciate not everyone has endless time to devote to travelling so that’s why we created our Classic Big Trans-Siberian. It ticks essential boxes for the time-strapped by combining two of the “must see” destinations – Siberia’s epic Lake Baikal and the vast, welcoming and enchanting expanses of Mongolia – with a year-round choice of departures. You choose. From balmy summer days spent swimming, trekking or picnicking at the largest freshwater lake on the planet to husky dog sledding and snow mobiling in winter, this is the trip for those who don’t want a schedule to any way limit their horizons on the world’s greatest railway journey.  This trip offers the opportunity to end your journey in St. Petersburg,  where you will see the contrast between the imperial splendour and the soviet simplicity that existed both then and now.

  • DAY 01 – Arrival in Beijing

On arrival in Beijing you make your own way to the hotel – any taxi driver will quickly find the address. The convenient location of the hotel positions you to get the most of this legendary Imperial city. The hotel is in the heart of the golden area of the capital, surrounded by major business centres, tourist attractions and only minutes away from the Wangfujing Street, Tiannamen Square and the Forbidden City.

    DAY 02 – Departing Beijing

Own transfer to Beijing Central station where you will board the Ulaanbaatar bound train.

DAY 03 – Arrival in Ulaanbaatar

Arrival in Ulaanbaatar. Our driver and guide will meet you at the end of the platform and will be holding a meeting- board with your name on.  Set off for Guru Ger Lodge, situated in Terelj National Park, which is located on the east side 70km from Ulaanbaatar city. (current journey time around 90 minutes)  Guru Ger lodge  is surrounded by mountains, uniquely formed granite rocks and a wide-open valley, the emphasis is on supporting the livelihood of the community in an eco friendly manner and where natural organic food is served and local rituals and customs are both celebrated and preserved.  Supper this evening will be served in the restaurant. We recommend a visit to Camp Cultural Ger, learn traditional Mongolian Games, try on National Costume’s, but most of all enjoy the scenery of Terelj National Park.

DAY 04 – Guru Ger Lodge

With no specific activities planned you can choose to chill out, read, go walking, or (for a small payment made directly to them locally) you can go horse riding with local nomad horsemen. On offer today is a visit to a local Nomadic Family and hike to Aryabala Medication Temple. A relaxed evening in the bar after supper where you can chat with the local guides and other travellers. It’s also worth watching the sunset, as its not called the land of the endless skies for nothing.

DAY 05 – Return to Ulaanbaatar

Around 10am you make the return trip to Ulaanbaatar. The journey includes a stop to the enormous monument to Genghis Khan (aka Chinghiiskhan.) It may not be quite traditional in style (since it’s made of stainless steel) but it’s an astounding edifice and a testament to Genghis’s place in Mongolian culture (astonishingly the Communists tried to write him out of official history text-books). Taking the elevator to top of this 10 metre high monument you visit the exhibition hall from where you will have an excellent panoramic view over the complex area and the scenery beyond. On arrival to Ulaanbaatar your city tour will include; Sukhbaatar Square and the National History Museum. Check into Hotel Nine 3★ Hotel.  A wide range of restaurants are available to suit any pocket or maybe go to see a Folklore concert?

    DAY 06 – Departing Ulaanbaatar

It`s easy to pick up some snack food today for the train in one of the many supermarkets and relax while having a stroll round this capital city.   This afternoon we will transfer you to the station where you will board the Irkutsk bound train.  When you make the border crossing there will be the usual halt for formalities.

DAY 07 – Arrival in Irkutsk

Arrival in Irkutsk, transfer to U Ozera 3★ Hotel situated in Listvyanka Village (70km) travelling by road through the forest. The Hotel is set just 50 metres from the shores of Lake Baikal.

    DAY 08 – Listvyanka Village

Today there is a walking tour around Listvyanka Village. This will include a visit to the Limnological Museum (this is an exhibition about the Lake, its formation, wildlife etc. – it includes multimedia presentations, information about the creatures which live in the darkest depths, and also an aquarium with living aquatic species, including the unique freshwater Baikal seals) and also a small wooden village Russian Orthodox Church dating back to the C18th. You return to your hotel at the end of the walk,  maybe experience real Siberian “banya”?

DAY 09 – Choose one activity from the list

It’s all included in the trip price! You’ll need to inform us of your choice before commencing your journey, so that we can have the right staff on hand for when you arrive

    • SIBERIAN TREK

Through the Taiga Forest with a local guide who will explain the wildlife, with a local guide who will explain the eco system and lore of the Taiga. The trek is 4-5 hours long, includes a picnic style lunch and a good level of fitness is required. (May-Oct)
    • CIRCUM BAIKAL PICNIC

Take the Ferry from Listvyanka to Port Baikal which takes around 15 minutes. Walk around Port Baikal, where you will see the train station of the old Circumbaikal rail line. Then you will walk along the rail line to the nearest tunnel (2-3 km). Stopping for a picnic lunch on the shore of Lake Baikal. Return to Port Baikal, ferry back to Listvyanka. The excursion is around 5 hours duration. (June-September)
    • TALSTY WOODEN MUSEUM

A two hour trip which includes a return transfer by car and entrance fees to the Taltsy open air wooden museum which is situated on the shore of the Angara river. On arrival you are free to explore independently and there is a tea house here where afterwards you can have a cup of tea and traditional Russian snack (pancakes, pirodzki, etc) This picturesque area shows how life was and has been sympathetically restored as a tourist attraction where you can buy authentic souvenirs. (Year round)
    • PORT BAIKAL

A day trip to Port Baikal with a local guide taking a ferry from Listvyanka. On arrival visit the Circumbaikal Railway Museum located at the train station then an uphill hike to the White stone viewpoint and to see the old lighthouse. Followed by a visit to a Russian Orthodox Church, lunch and free time walking back to the village. Return by ferry. Duration 5 hours. (May–August)
    • SNOW MOBILE

With a local guide through the forest, or even out over the deep frozen lake! The excursion is around 2 hours 30 minutes duration (December-April)
    • DOG SLEDDING

Trip for a distance of 10km 1 dog sled for each client. The excursion is around 1 hour 30 minutes duration. (December-March)

    DAY 10– Return to Irkutsk

After breakfast transfer back to Irkutsk city. Our local staff will provide a map and some recommendations of interesting places to visit. Some of our top suggestions (please check opening times/days before setting off) Decembrist Museum, Volkonsky House and The Epiphany Cathedral. Early evening transfer to the station, where you will board the Moscow bound train.

    DAY 11–13 –  On board The Trans-Siberian

The dining car is the heart of social life on the train. It functions as bar, lounge, and take-out snack store, as well as a café serving reasonably-priced meals. It is a great place to meet fellow travellers and locals alike, sharing your experiences of your journey so far with a few drinks, which no doubt will include some Vodka – and maybe smoked salmon and caviar too!

DAY 14 – Arrival in Moscow

Very early morning arrival in Moscow. Your driver will meet you at the end of the platform and you will travel by private car to the Panorama 3★ Hotel. (We can obtain rates for superior hotels ask a member of the reservations team for details.) Your room will be allocated on arrival. You will have a chance to have breakfast before setting out on today’s three hour walking and familiarisation tour. This will introduce you to the city (and its public transport system) and get your sightseeing off to a flying start. The rest of the day’s your own. Your complimentary InfoPack is full of ideas for getting the most out of your free time.

    DAY 15 – Departing Moscow

A full day to continue your sightseeing. Own transfer this evening to Leningradsky Station where you will board the St. Petersburg bound train.

DAY 16 – Arrival in St. Petersburg

Early morning arrival in St. Petersburg. Our driver will be there to meet you at the end of the platform, and will be holding a meeting-board with your name on. You’ll then be transferred to the Vesta 3★ Hotel. (We can obtain rates for superior hotels ask a member of the reservations team for details.) Around 10am your guide will meet you at the hotel and introduce you to the city’s highlights – a good basis for starting your own explorations. Although the public transport (used on today’s excursion) is similar to Moscow’s, there are a few quirks that your guide will show you. After lunchtime you’re on your own to explore further.

DAY 17 – Explore St. Petersburg

Free day for you to pack in the best of the rest! Perhaps you have pre-booked one of our city based excursions for today. Some of our top suggestions (please check opening times/days before setting off) The Hermitage Collection – Winter Palace. The canals and waterways of the “Northern Venice”. The Russian Museum of Fine Art. The Peter & Paul Fortress-and the Tombs of the Tsars inside the Fortress Cathedral. The Church on the Spilt Blood, nearby the Souvenir Bazaar.

    DAY 18 – End of Trans-Siberian journey

You will need to check out of your room by 12 noon. Own transport to the airport or station on departure.

  • Classic Big Trans-Siberian

  • The journey you have chosen has some “extras” that are necessary and then “extras” that will enhance your trip. We cannot re-iterate too much that at Russia Experience we pride ourselves on making the trip you have chosen the best it can be – so if we don’t mention something you want, ask us and we’ll try our best to make it happen! In return, we try to inform you about any great “extras” along the way, so that you have the chance to try them if you want! Trans-Siberian Railway

    Starting or ending in China

We have a range of services for passengers wanting to stay or continue their journey into China at the start or end of their journey.

  • Upgrading to 2- berth compartment on the train is also an option, you will see under Prices. This service is becoming more popular every year and not helped by the train operators only confirming this request 30 days or less prior to your departure. We have however devised a workaround for this that’s proving very reliable. We request a 2-berth at the time of booking but if this comes back not possible we block out a 4-berth compartment for 2 person occupancy. The standard of these cabins remains the same, and you get the extra space and privacy one way or the other.

4-berth compartments have two upper and two lower berths, and luggage-stowage below the lower berths, and in the large overhead bays. There are reading lights and a table.

2-berth compartments are exactly the same, minus the two upper berths. There is an even larger luggage-bay at ceiling level with enough space for 4-5 large suitcases. Your berth has a small fold-out shelf big enough for small handbags, and some hooks to hang things on. There are hooks for large coats etc too.

Don’t just take our word for it….

Dear Odette and Joanne (and everyone else involved),

All I can say is WOW!

What an amazing and epic trip!  Thank you so much for making this trip such a wonderful experience.   You and your team did an amazing job and I couldn’t believe how well everything worked out.   Prior to departure, as the planning was coming together, I was thinking that this was a pretty complex trip with a lot of moving parts and had some concerns as to how it would all work out.   Well, I needn’t have worried. The Trans-Siberian was amazing and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

My guides were excellent and I really enjoyed the knowledge and insights they provided.   The dog sledding and especially the snowmobiling were so much fun and The Bolshoi was wonderful. I am also glad I did this in winter, went east-to-west, and started in Vladivostok.   I am still trying to process it all but wanted to drop you a note to thank you and let you know how much I enjoyed it.

Well Done!

Thank you again,

David Fischer

David Fischer

Dear Odette

The guides we had were really knowledgeable and good at pitching the information and background history at the right level. It has been great to get their perspective on their country, its recent history and current position.
A note on the tours – Doing an orientation / overview guided walk as the first activity really worked for us and we’d certainly recommend the format and timing.

Esp re the carriages on the train, the mantra of under promise and over deliver worked well. Bringing ones own cup / tea bags and some food worked well and was needed once or twice. Pretty basic drop toilets and no shower on a couple of legs was not an issue as you had prepared our expectations.

VERY glad we had a cabin to ourselves. For us , 4 in a cabin would have been way too cosy. Each to their own, but for us DEFINITELY the right choice.

The time of year was good also. A week or two earlier would have seen the dog trip eventuate this year , next year may be different. We saw Siberia with snow, giant frozen lakes and it was not too cold. The other advantage was the lack of queues- esp at the iconic sights. The down side being that places such as the Peterhoff and anywhere where gardens and fountains are the theme, are nowhere near their best.

Again, we had a memorable adventure so thank you for your assistance.

Cheers
Chris Walter.

Chris Walter

Good  Morning –

Just wanted to drop a quick note to tell you how wonderful everything was on our trip.  It was really even more amazing than we hoped for from start to finish.   Some highlights.

•       Metropole ended up being a great location (and the awesome breakfast was included) plus the concierges were very very helpful. Rooms are quite ordinary but can’t say enough about service and location.
•       We got a great (affordable too!) vegetarian meal at Twin Gardens in Moscow. It was our fine dining option over White Rabbit – concierge at Metropole had made that recommendation to me in email early on and helped with reservations. We also went to Tsum Buro on their recommendation after Boshoi – also very good and both walk-able from Metropole
•       Konstantine and Demitry in Yekaterinburg.  They were excellent and the “ownership” they took over our care those days was very nice.  He is a great partner.
•       We really enjoyed our train trip (despite our overly large luggage), we had two great women carriage attendants and one bit lazy man on our middle leg who we called grandpa snow.   We found our trains
comfortable and thank goodness for Susan the bathrooms very clean!
•       Not sure if you heard about the coal train that derailed outside of Irkutsk  in January. We were actually behind that, we are fairly convinced they moved us to another track as our ride was Very bumpy
and Lena said she was stunned we were only 15 minutes late as some trains where running 11 hour behind.
•       Skiing worked out great and we did not injure ourselves.
•       Weather was miraculous –  Our average temperature was around -10 to -15 C, and on our ski day with sun – perfect ski weather.  So hardly a hot hands was used.
•       The top highlight was our cooking class in Lake Baikal, it was so very special.  We went to Rita and Sasha (he’s a guide that works with Lena and she use to have a home stay before she retired)  Not only did Susan get vegetarian Borscht and Rita’s Blini’s were the best. It was just great fun, good conversation and a little homemade vodka.

Thank you again for all the care you put in helping us plan this trip
and your flexibility. It was a trip of a lifetime.

FYI – I came back to sub sub zero temperatures (-33 C), I can’t believe it’s colder at home than Siberia!!

Cheers
Kelly

Hi Odette,
Sorry, been away for a couple of days!
Well, where to start! It was truly amazing. We saw marvellous places, met lovely people and had amazing guides.
We would both highly recommend Russia Experience .
Thank you both so much for organising our whole trip and the wonderful excursions, keeping us fully informed of progress & and any issues, getting our visas for China & Mongolia, helping us get Russia visas and organising transfers from airport to Beijing and Moscow to airport to come home. Everything worked exceptionally well and all the transfers were much appreciated. The hotel staff were great in all the hotels, especially Moscow and our guides were brilliant, excellent English, passionate about their countries, knowledgeable and interesting.
Warm regards,
Liz and Adele

Liz & Adele

Dear Odette,

I realised that it has now been several months since our incredible trip to Russia, and we’ve not actually thanked you for all your help and support to book what was the best holiday of my life.
A large part of making it the best holiday of my life was how helpful and supportive you were throughout the process of booking, making arrangements and getting visas etc. Not only that, but just how perfectly organised and arranged the transfers were and the excellent tour guides when we were in Russia were just perfect. It’s started somewhat of an obsession with everything Russian (before it was just a healthy interest!).
So thank you so much for everything. Let us know the best way to help you to show that thanks (TripAdvisor reviews??) and we’ll do it. I’ve recommended you to several people already and will continue to do so.
One last favour – we’d like to send thank you notes (in the form of very London based postcards!) to our guides. Would it be possible to send us the company addresses of the tour guides in Irkustk and St Petersburg? Lake Baikal and the trek were our absolute highlights so we’d love to send Lena and Sasha something in the post if we can. Googling Baikal Booking doesn’t come up with anything!
Many thanks,
Laura

Dear Odette and Joanne,

We have just checked in to Hotel Nine in Ulaanbaatar. Our train tickets for Beijing were there, waiting for us. Excellent.

There was a small moment of uncertainty when they seemed to think that we would share a room here, but that has been dealt with.

I want to take the opportunity of letting you know how fantastically well everything has been organised, and how pleased we are with everything.

The hotels were uniformly good, the transfer arrangements worked brilliantly everywhere, and all three guides (Marianna in Yekaterinburg, Anastasia in Irkutsk/Listvyanka and above all Anar in Mongolia) were fantastic.

The trip itself has so far been amazing – everything we could hope for and more.

So, very well done, and many thanks.

Best regards

Hi ladies,

We’re settling back in after our big adventure. What a time we had! Would recommend and would do it again 🙂

Sorry it’s taken me too long to get in touch to thank you for everything. But thank you!! For your help setting things up and for being reactive throughout our many email trails over the last few months. It made everything so much simpler for us.

It’s definitely not a ‘once in a lifetime’ experience – we will do it again in a few years, trying a different route and some different stops along the way. It’s simply too big a deal not to have another go!

I can give you specific feedback on trains, hotels, destinations, if it interests or helps you. (In short, Mongolia was incredibly beautiful, Tomsk lovely, Moscow even better than I imagined. The train standards were a bit of a mixed bag – the Russian ones good, the Chinese and Mongolian ones not so. There are a few things I’d highly recommend, such as a couple of our hotels)

Your ticketing was seamless, and I’ve already recommended your booking services to a friend planning to travel in the summer.

So yeah, we’ve had a super time. Pretty serious come-down now!

Hi Odette and Joanne,

I came back home last Wednesday evening, after a total of five weeks and about 7000 miles of railway track!

Just wanted to send you a message with a big THANK YOU for all your help, and with your incredible patience and flexibility when I was changing my mind and my plans.

And when I was panicking about things, like passport and visa. 🙂

Everything went well, it was a fantastic experience. The train tickets were all delivered on time to my accommodation. In Beijing, I figured out how to take public transport to Mutyanu to visit the Great Wall – absolutely amazing feeling to really be there! In Ulan Batar, I stayed at Zaya Hostel, super accommodation and very helpful, done a nice day trip to the Chenggis Khan statue and the National Park. In Irkutsk, I looked around in the city and also took a public minibus to go to Listvyanka, where I went for a dog sledding trip, really really nice. I’ve seen the lowest temperature of my entire trip in Irkutsk: minus 35!! After that, Alex was a fantastic guide and great company on my trip to the gulag museum and the ice caves. In Moscow also enough to see and do. After my days in Moscow, where your itinerary and service was finished, I booked myself an additional small pile of train tickets. I went to Kiev (stayed four days, well worth the extra stop!), then “station hopped” home without any more sightseeing stops: Kiev, Warsaw, Berlin, Cologne, Brussels, Eurotunnel to London, Cardiff, Fishguard…

Big big thank you once again. Is there anywhere I can leave a review for other people to read? Maybe on your Facebook page?

Best regards, spassiba!!

Saskia van Schip

Charles and I returned home yesterday.  I want you to know that this was one fabulous experience.  Really, it was almost perfect.  Everything was well thought out and executed.  There was meticulous attention to detail in organizing everything.
If you ever would like me to serve as a reference for your service and for the trip itself, do not hesitate to contact me.

Just back this weekend from my travels over the last 5 weeks, the first part of which was the Trans-Siberian.

We just wanted to say huge thanks to you – and to Jo and to Jackie – for all your help.

You provide a truly great service – very efficient and helping us to get a really good sense in advance of what to expect. It was a great trip which we really enjoyed.

I’ve already recommended you to a number of friends and colleagues.

The Moscow-Beijing route that we travelled uses Chinese rolling stock. And so all the carriage attendants were male and Chinese – not quite what we were expecting but they were very pleasant and helpful nonetheless!

Thank you again to all of you,

Ian & Phil

Hi Joanne & Odette,

I just wanted to say thanks for organizing the Trans-Siberian Rail Trip trip for me. I just arrived in Moscow and have been having a great time. Everything went incredibly smoothly. I appreciate your help planning everything. I ran into another of your clients along the way, they said the same thing.

Now, time to explore!

Regards,

Hello Russia Experience,
We are now in Shanghai. We had the most amazing time on the Trans-Siberian, what a great experience. The level of service and professionalism we had form yourselves continued through the whole trip. In particular the teams in Yekaterinburg and Ulaanbaatar were absolutely brilliant. I can’t believe the three weeks are over however we have memories to last forever. I would have loved to spend more time in Mongolia, so we might come back again for another adventure.
I will recommend you to all our friends and I write a travel blog and have given you a good mention.
Thank you so much,
Chris and Jane.

Hi Odette,

Just a quick note to say we’ve arrived home safely and had an absolutely fantastic time, the whole trip ran like a dream, the transfers and guides were superb, it was a great experience.

Thank you so much for your recommendations, the Golden Apple and the Khan resort (especially!!) were both brilliant.

Best wishes,

Damien & Sali Walsh

Now that we have finished our journey across Asia, we wanted to email to thank you and your colleagues for the excellent arrangements which went without a hitch. It was a most wonderful and inspiring journey which was made the more enjoyable by knowing that we would be met and guided when it was crucial, but left also left to our own devices to explore places when it was prudent to do so.

In each place, your agents were most helpful, but we especially wanted to single out your Mongolian partners who went out of their way to make us welcome and explain to us a great deal about the country and its customs.

So, all in all, a great trip which we would recommend without hesitation: just the right blend of adventure and comfort! Thank you to all concerned.

With best wishes,

Robert & Louise

I got back to Bangalore on Aug 6th night, after a long flight from St. Petersburg.
We had a fantastic time travelling across Russia. Enjoyed Moscow and St. Petersburg very much. Moscow is a grand beautiful city with a very good Metro. I liked St. Petersburg even better; smaller scale than Moscow, but more intimate and beautiful. I wish we had more time there.
The guides in Mongolia, Irkutsk, Ekaterinburg and Moscow were wonderful.   I would like to see Lake Baikal and other parts of Russia in the winter. I will contact you when I am ready for that trip.
Ekaterinburg was a complete surprise. I had never heard of this city; it is a charming city, very European. Even old Irkutsk was beautiful with wide boulevards. Parts of the city was a bit faded, but you can still sense that this was a grand city one time. Russia was not the grim place portrayed by western media. It is a vast and beautiful country. People are intelligent and very hard working. They openly admit that 70 years of communism was a failed experiment and are ready to move forward. I do hope free market reforms will slowly take hold and they will prosper. It is clearly the most resource-rich country I have seen. It is also ethnically the most diverse country in the world. It needs a strong leader to bring the country together and in that sense Putin serves that purpose.
Russia is also a bargain to travel now, with the 65 rubles to a dollar. It is cheaper than travelling in India now. So was Mongolia, a beautiful country with very friendly people. I would love to explore Russia further.

We are back from our trip of a lifetime! I want to thank you and your team for the excellent service you gave to make this such a rewarding and memorable experience. My son and I had a flawless experience, without a glitch the entire trip. The sights, sounds, people and places filled in the rest. Thank you so much for taking care of the many details and especially it was a comfort to have our onward train tickets always awaiting us at the hotels when we arrived at our next destination. As you know, the route from Beijing to Moscow/St. Petersburg is totally unique and well worth it. Other than a rainy St. Pete, we had marvellous weather.

Here are some personal highlights from our trip.
I was struck by the dearth of caucasians in China and Mongolia. Some days the only non-orientals were ourselves! Great to be immersed in another culture like that.
In every big city Stephan and I did an urban run. What a great way to see a city at the street level and the people and all the energy as we ran anywhere from 3 kilometers to 10 kilometers at a go. You can imagine what it was like to run along Tianamen Square or around the Kremlin.
One extra exciting run was at Ekaterineburg. The train had a 29 minute stop and the location of the Ipatiav House where the Romanov’s were murdered was 1.5 kilometers from the train station. We had to book it off the train, through the station, onto the main boulevard and down to the huge cathedral now on that a site. Take a few pictures and hustle back with a minute to spare before the train took off!
The friends we made in wagon 6 on our trek across Siberia. There were many Brits, Canadians, and Aussies. Because we were all on the Trans-Sib/Mongolian, everyone had a sense of adventure. We were among kindred spirits. We shared stories, adventures, food, and vodka. And lots of conversation about about the Brexit vote and the results of Euro 16 football matches.
Quality time for father and son with hours together in our compartment to talk, read, share and grow closer. Stephan speaks Chinese so he was a huge asset in China as well.
A happy home away from home-coming as Sarah and Johan met us in Moscow. Good food and museums. My favorite museum is the Tretyakov and it was such a treat to view the works of Repin, Perov, Shishkin, and Lamonsov.
The Mongolian steppes. The vistas were incredible and the time spent there, as well as sleeping in a ger was so memorable.

Thank you again for your service and care for our trip. We loved it and I am so grateful for your professional wisdom and handling of the details. You are the best and can highly recommend you to all.

Blessings abound,

Joel

Dear Odette and Joanne,

Not sure if you meant it when you said you wanted some feedback but here goes. I’m on the penultimate day as we arrive in Vladivostok tomorrow.  I must say I have thoroughly enjoyed it. Nothing like what I expected but it has been a great experience and although I wouldn’t repeat it I would certainly redo it.   Siberia was much less sparse than I expected and the towns were much more modern than I had expected. It’s very much a tourist trip for tourists so I could imagine some people being disappointed if they were expecting purely a culture or a geographical trip. The organisation is outstanding, service is excellent, food is very good and the facilities far above what I could have imagined. The trip itself is a curious mixture of culture, cuisine, cities, concerts, folklore, geography, history ( lectures from a professor of Russian history), entertainment, adventure and I’m sure I forgot something.

Really wonderful.   Thanks for your help in giving me this experience,
Sincerely John

Wendy and I would both like to thank you and the Russian Experience team for a fantastic trip.  The organisation of the trip was flawless, the walking tour guides were extraordinarily good and the accommodation was fine and always very conveniently located.  The Ger Lodge in winter was amazing, especially the guy that came into the ger in the middle of the night to replenish the pot belly stove.  On the first night he noticed my doona had slipped off so he tucked me in – its a long time since anyone has done that!  The scenery passing through China, Mongolia and Russia was mesmerizing.  Wendy and I spent hours looking out the train window watching the world go by.

I wanted to tell you how much my wife and I liked the Tsars Gold Trans-Siberian railway trip.   It was much better than I expected.  Thanks so much for handling all of the arrangements for us. Everything worked out so well.

Since the end of the train trip we have been in Moscow for five days and are currently finishing up a visit to beautiful St Petersburg. Tomorrow we head to Copenhagen as we continue our three month journey.

Thanks again for all that you did on our behalf.

Our itinerary was fulfilled without a wrinkle.

All services – transits, hotels, on-train facilities and guides were punctual and efficient.

We had no problems in meeting/being met by taxi drivers. Hotels were expecting us as paid-for guests.
Guides were pleasant, knowledgeable and had good English. On-train we were surprised at being offered all we wanted. Indeed, the whole package was sound and recommendable.

We were pleasantly surprised with unexpected on-train facilities.  Apparently, the 1st class, two-berth, on-train service includes one cooked meal daily and complementary daily supply of tea, coffee and chocolate. Boiling water for beverages is available all day and night in each car. Bedding – linen sleeping bag and two pillows – is free.   On the older railway stock, on train 8, don’t expect to wash anything except hands and your plastic crockery and cutlery. Toilet paper is always available, though not always paper towels, and the waste bins are emptied regularly.

At Irkutsk the local office manager is like no other manager. His appearance is that of a 1960s hippy – long hair tied into a pony-tail, short trousers, back-pack – but he is delightfully lucid, speaks excellent English, is clearly well-connected, is light hearted and very effective. The world needs more of his equal.
The fresh water and very clear Lake Baikal is a treasure: It’s 636 km long, about 1650 m deep and has many species found nowhere else. No wonder it has internationally recognised status for scientific interest. The Baikal museum and aquarium is truly worth a visit.

Thanks for organising a most enjoyable and interesting tour.

Yours aye,
Ian Fraser

Thank you for all your trip planning assistance. We just got home after a great and challenging trip. We added on 4 days in the Gobi ( flew there) at the end. All guides were wonderful except for Luda in St Petersburg.   She had her agenda on what we should see and hear and wasn’t receptive to our agenda. Not a great problem as it was only for 3 hours.

Our home stay hostess, Olga, was a delight. Loved the visits to villages.

Now to read and reread Russian novels! Mongolia nomad stay was more challenging than we expected but in retrospect was a good experience. Family and guide were great.

We are freshly returned from our fantastic Trans-Siberian adventure. We would very much like to say a massive ‘thank you’.

We have had an amazing time. Everything was so well organised, we always felt looked after without feeling stifled or rushed about as you might on a fully managed/guided tour. We had plenty of time to do our own thing and the trips were always in very small groups (if not only the three of us!). The local guides at each location were fantastic. All really helpful and knowledgeable and ready to do that little bit extra (special thanks to the amazing Ulziimaa in Ulaanbataar!). As you may have guessed at an early stage I can be a bit of a nervous traveller but you reassured us at every step and everything was so well planned and organised, we really had nothing to worry about at all. I appreciate hugely the fact that every email and question I had was responded to and answered within minutes/hours, even when we were in China. I will (and already have done) unreservedly recommend you and your company to anyone considering travelling through Russia, Mongolia and China.

A truly amazing experience…thank you.

Hello Odette
My husband and I got back from our trans-Sib trip this week after a wonderful month away. There wasn’t a single hitch thanks to your organisation and we threw ourselves whole-heartedly into integrating with the ‘natives’. A totally memorable experience and lots of new friends gathered on the way.
Our warmest thanks,

Hello Odette,
Just a short note to tell you that our trip went beautifully. The organization was perfect; guides, hotels, etc. were all as expected. All in all a great experience.
We are currently in Sydney, about to complete our journey around the world.

Thanks for all your troubles and for a wonderful experience.

Dear Jo,
A long overdue email to you.   My girls had a really tremendous trip.  All down to you for incredible planning, great flexibility and astonishing action at short notice.  This trip went from dream to execution in the space of 3 weeks.  Your support in collecting Visas as the girls passports became available for days and hours was second to none.  I have a forensic attitude towards service and product delivery and I rate you amongst the best I’ve encountered.  It is without reservation that I recommend your product – you being an intrinsic part of it.

Kind regards,

We have been back home for nearly a month and I have neglected in thanking your company for such a well organised, interesting journey(Super Trans Mongolian) Charming personal guides who gave us a real feeling for their homelands. The most memorable days were at Elstei Ger and a day in the country with Constantine at Ekaterinburg. Both sister companies in these parts of the trip were excellent and I would be grateful if you could extend our thanks.

I think that you should know that I have reached that time in life where I am not happy unless I can complain about something. Being a miserable old git gives me great pleasure. So let us start with the trip you arranged for the two Brians.
First – Hotels; All excellent and situated conveniently close to the city centres and the main attractions. Staff very helpful even to the extent of supplying breakfast boxes on those mornings we left early.

City Walks; These added a whole new dimension to the tours as the guides were first rate and very well informed. We also found that they were happy to talk of present and past regimes which served to add colour to the situation and they were also well versed in the local customs. Without the guides the experience would not have been quite so rewarding.

Options; Not to be missed. Picnic at Lake Baikal and the trip to the Great Wall. Excellent guides and very well organised .

As promised we were always met as arranged . The drivers went out of their way to ensure that we were on time for our trains and they also made sure that we were safely on board before leaving. We were also lucky in meeting three others on the “experience” in Moscow who we were with until Beijing and so we had others to turn to when we were confused. ( Often at my age )

All in all it was a fantastic experience and one that I would not have wanted to miss at any cost. You have made two old men very happy.

My one and only complaint about the trip is that I have absolutely nothing about which to complain.

My thanks to you and all involved.

Brian Marchant & Brian Quance

We have arrived safely in Beijing and would just like to say a massive thank you for organising our Moscow to Beijing trip for us! Everything was on time and excellent! We were met at every station and the guides / helpers we had were fantastic!

We thoroughly enjoyed the hike round Lake Baikal (although the distances were a lot further than in the itinerary!!!!), and the walking guide Anton was both knowledgeable and chilled out, a great balance!

Mongolia was also an excellent experience, with the family stay being the highlight! Our guide Naki had endless information and was forever cheerful! A big thank you to him too!

The whole experience for us both was a very positive one and we will be sure to recommend your company to family and friends!!
Once again, thank you to all the drivers, guides and yourself for an excellent service!
