Though you might not think of China as a typical skiing destination, skiing is becoming more and more popular. The Heilongjiang province, of which Harbin is the capital, gets cold enough every winter to guarantee sufficient snowfall and make it a great place to base yourself for a skiing holiday in the region. The skiing season runs from November to March, or even some years until April. The later in the season, the longer the sun will be up, giving you the maximum time out on the slopes. Here are the best places to know about near Harbin to go skiing.
Yabuli Windmill Mountain
The biggest ski resort in all of China, Yabuli is 200 kilometres east of Harbin. It is famous for its consistent snow coverage, which is neither too hard nor too powdery. It is made up of two distinct areas – the competitive skiing section, which has slopes up to 1400 metres, and a more leisurely skiing area with a maximum height of 1000 metres. This combination makes it a good option for both beginners and seasoned skiers.
Considering the other activities available on site, such as mini-golf, tennis, and paragliding, the mountain also serves as a superb skiing destination for families with diverse interests.
